Boulevard Haussmann in 1912
Boulevard Haussmann is one of the busiest streets in Paris, and one of the least looked at. The Galeries Lafayette building itself has barely changed: what has disappeared is everything around it.
We rebuilt the boulevard as it stood in 1912, following the method we apply to every reconstruction: archive sources, period plans, and validation at each stage.
A setting you think you know
The reconstruction brings back what has been erased: the painted signs running the full height of the façades, the canvas awnings, the métro entrance, the corner restaurant, the tram rails set into the cobbles. The building is almost unchanged, which is what makes the comparison land: you recognise the place and you do not.
